The SD90/43MAC, one of the world's heaviest, longest, and most powerful single diesel locomotives, weighs in at over 400,000 pounds and measures more than 80 feet in length. Initially, the SD90/43MAC was designed to be equipped with a 6,000hp engine. However, most railroads opted for a smaller, more reliable 4,300hp engine, even though the option to upgrade to the higher horsepower engine was offered at a later date.

The SD90/43MAC's impressive power is delivered by a powerful five-pole KATO motor with dual brass flywheels. This locomotive also features a directional headlight and preprinted numberboards, as well as a KATO magnetic knuckle coupler.

The SD90/43MAC's mechanism is DCC-friendly, ready for drop-in decoder installation. It is compatible with the Digitrax DN163K2 or Train Control Systems K2D4 DCC decoders, allowing for seamless integration into digital control systems.
